This is the most up-to-date information on lamotrigine we have. We have less data on Effexor.

These are always complicated decisions. While there is concern about medications used during pregnancy, we cannot ignore the potential risks of untreated illness in the mother.

Two things about light therapy that aren't widely advertised:
1. It needs to start in mid-August to get the jump on the rapid loss of daylight in September. Very glad to see that this post is dated before the big rush in December!
2. The light bulbs need to be changed every other year to maintain the intensity of light required for treatment. A patient gave up using her light box after several seasons, thinking that "I must just be getting crazier in my old age." I found the "change the bulbs" info buried deep in the fine print of the manufacturer's brochure. Patient is now back in the light.
And I have one question: What about seasonal affective MANIA? Any literature on whether light supplementation can calm mania?
     Good work!

I am currently taking 150mg Effexor XL daily along with Lamotrigine 100mg daily for Dysthymia/Borderline Personality Disorder. I also had an Endometrial Ablation done approx 2-3yrs ago, therefore don't have a monthly period. I may want to become pregnant in the near future. Is there anything I should be cautious about? I certainly don't want to risk my health or the health of a baby.

@Laura, I go through the same EXACT thing every month.. Anti-depressants don't help. Yoga can only do so much in the moment it is done. Journaling is not even close to a resolution. Aaah! I have found that Taurine has given me enough energy to get out of bed. Thanks for the tip on Black Cohosh...will try also.
